A Dark Lure
Loreth Anne White
Olivia West may have a good life now on the Broken Bar Ranch near Watt Lake in British Columbia, but she survived a truly horrific experience years ago that has left its mark on her psyche and her body. She was kept prisoner by a serial killer over a cold winter and is the only woman to have escaped his clutches. And unbeknownst to her, the killer is coming back for her a dozen years later.
Gabe Burton is a cop who worked the case, and he is sure that they got the wrong man, who died in prison. He sets a trap for the killer with Olivia as bait, then comes to the ranch to catch him. No one knows of the threat that lurks. Olivia convinces herself that she’s being paranoid. But as Cole McDonough, the prodigal son, comes home to the ranch, a killer is coming to finish what began so long ago.
Loreth Anne White evokes the setting in the days before Canadian Thanksgiving in this chilling tale. Multiple points of view effectively illuminate the characters and heighten the ominous atmosphere, and the family drama and love story threaded throughout add layers to the story. You’ll be up into the wee hours to finish this one!
