Caleb Hart was a promising young pitcher, but an epic meltdown while in the major leagues got him traded and then sent down to the Catfish in Kilby, Texas. He’s just been pulled from another disastrous start, and he is making his way to the clubhouse when he bumps into Sadie Merritt. She works for the mayor, and is delivering a petition to the Catfish’s manager, protesting the team’s rowdy behavior. He is attracted to her immediately, despite his distractions.
Sadie is wary of getting involved with any man, and this man causes a conflict with her boss, which makes him even more dangerous. Her ex-boyfriend destroyed her reputation after they broke up. He set up a Facebook page called Slutty Sadie and posted every partially nude picture of her that he could. Now many members of the town view her very differently, and getting a job was a battle.
Jennifer Bernard launches the “Love Between the Bases” series with this wonderful tale. Both hero and heroine have thorny issues to contend with, adding urgency, and their chemistry is off the charts. The small-town setting works well, readers will love the team’s camaraderie, and some secondary characters are begging for their own stories.

Fred Breen has kept a secret from his fellow firefighters--he does Muy Thai (martial arts) and recently won second place in a competition. The secret is coming out now that he’s brought his trophy with him while at a bar with a fellow firefighter. A drunken bachelorette party is also at the bar, and they take turns stealing his trophy. Fred immediately notices one cute and very drunk bridesmaid and tries to keep her out of trouble. She’s not happy with that until the trouble becomes life‑threatening.
As the limo leaves the bar, a crane falls on it, trapping and injuring the girls inside. Fred the Fireman gets Rachel Kessler and her friends out, but old issues stemming from a childhood kidnapping have left her intensely claustrophobic, so she punches him in the nose and runs. Shame engulfs her after her panic subsides. She would like to apologize as well as thank him, but she’s the daughter of one of the wealthiest men in the country and must avoid Fred, the latest Bachelor Fireman to gain notoriety.
Jennifer Bernard’s latest "Bachelor Firemen" title takes a favorite character from the series and turns him into an endearing hero. Rachel is a strong match, and though they have steep challenges blocking their way, their sexual chemistry melts the pages.

Vader Brown has been with Cherie Harper off and on for a while. When he’s been at a romantic event like a wedding, he has proposed to her, but she always says no. The rejection hurts, but so far he has not been able to walk away from her completely. She’s clearly keeping secrets, and he’d like to get to the bottom of these secrets, but the sexy fireman has been keeping secrets of his own. No one in his life--including Cherie and his fellow firefighters--knows about his mother, who’s been in a wheelchair since he was fourteen.
Cherie loves Vader but can’t let him into her life. She grew up in a cult‑like environment, and danger from that life could follow her to California. But what really starts her secrets unraveling is the arrival of her little sister Humility. Just like Cherie, Humility has run away to escape an early marriage, and she’s about to throw everyone’s lives into chaos.
Though this tale stands alone, fans of Jennifer Bernard's "Bachelor Firemen" series will get the most out of it. Vader is an enjoyable hero with depths not seen in prior tales, and Cherie is a revelation as well. Best of all, the lovers have marvelous chemistry.

Sabina Jones is one of two female firefighters at San Gabriel’s famous "Bachelor Firemen" station. She’s fought hard to fit in with the guys and is finally there. Having grown up as a child star performing on a TV show with her mother, she is happy to be both unknown and doing a job that is truly meaningful.
Rick Roman has left New York to give his son the opportunity to play baseball year‑round. He has taken a job to whip the "Bachelor Firemen" into shape because their notoriety does not always provide good publicity. On the way to California, he almost had a steamy one‑night stand. Imagine his surprise when that woman works in his fire station! The sparks fly as they fight and lust over each other. They have very different personalities, but they might be able to help each other heal.
Jennifer Bernard's latest is an awesome tour de force that readers won’t be able to put down. The hero, who lost his wife on 9/11, is a hard man who is still a fabulous hero, and the heroine, while she has her unreasonable moments, is still a joy to read. Don’t miss a tale that is fantastic from start to finish!
