The Accidental Countess
Valerie Bowman
St. Martin’s
Mass Market

Lady Cassandra is joyous that her long time unrequited only love, Captain Julian Swift, has returned safely from the Napoleonic Wars on the Continent, even if he’s pledge to marry her cousin. When her cousin disappears with a made up excuse to visit a fictitious friend at a country house party, Cassandra’s scheming friend and recent duchess, Lucy, sees a chance for her to spend time with Julian, pretending to be Patience Bunbury, none other than her cousin’s excuse for avoiding her intended. As they all congregate at the house party, Cassandra cherishes stolen moments with Julian. But she may lose him forever, the costly price for her pretense.
Valerie Bowman has written a highly enjoyable Regency romance with a special, standout charm. Cassandra is a very sweet woman whose love stands the test of times. Julian is hero to die for caliber, kind and honorable, topped off by his outward, masculine beauty. Along with Cassandra’s three friends, Lucy, Jane, and Garrett, other well drawn secondary characters round out an already strong love story. With charming comedy of manners type humor that descends into moments of hilarious slapstick, and a true blue love between two wonderful people, this book has plenty of appeal for fans of historical romance.
