Toni Blake~~4 1/2 and 5 Star Reviews
Sue Ann is already reeling from a recent divorce when she learns that her ex is petitioning to stop alimony payments. As she is supporting herself and her daughter on a part‑time job, losing that alimony check will be a massive blow. She heads to a rented mountain cabin for some time alone and has begun to knock back the wine when Adam Becker bursts into the cabin, claiming it's his.
A booking mix‑up results in Sue Ann and Adam sharing the cabin, and a quickly accumulating snowstorm traps them together. Although they have been friends for years and never noticed any sparks, suddenly they see each other quite differently, and their intimate surroundings lead to startling passion. But reality intrudes far too soon. Adam is divorced, too, and he confesses to culpability in the divorce that hits Sue Ann too close to home. Her ability to trust has already been shattered, and this, combined with fear, compels her to push him away. But circumstances and their feelings continue to draw them together.
Toni Blake's "Destiny, Ohio" series has been a joy, and the latest tale adds to the string of successes. Adam and Sue Ann are well-drawn, realistic characters. Sue Ann's dance of distrust, in particular, is absolutely understandable and believable. The love scenes are thrillingly hot, and the Christmas season frames the tale perfectly.
Heather Nordahl Files
Once upon a time, Tessa Sheridan was following her dreams in the city. Then Crohn's disease struck, and her frail health necessitated a move back home to Destiny, Ohio. Now she's working part‑time at her friend's bookstore and trying to start a business, but sometimes the only thing that can cheer her up is watching Ellen on TV. Then she meets Lucky Romo.
After an unhappy adolescence, Lucky left Destiny when he was eighteen and found trouble. He stayed away for a long time, but now he's back. For years, his parents and brother didn't even know he was alive, and even now he's not sure they even care he's back. But now he has hired Tessa to make over his home, and though she's anything but his usual "type," he's having a hard time resisting her and holding on to his secrets.
Toni Blake's latest is the third book in the Destiny, Ohio, series. While the other books were excellent, this one packs the strongest emotional punch. Both lead characters' struggles are moving, and readers' hearts will ache for Lucky. This stunning combination of thrillingly hot sex, wonderful characters and a riveting plot is headed straight for my keeper shelf!
