Claire Lecuyer used to be a cop, but she valued getting the job done over following procedure.  Now she's a private investigator with fewer rules. Her latest target needs to sign some very important papers, but along the way Claire has become the target of a stalker. Determined to complete her mission, she follows her target to an exclusive gathering patterned on a New Orleans’ octoroon ball. With her heritage and coffee‑with‑cream complexion, Claire fits right in.

Michael Murrieta is an FBI agent in pursuit of a dangerous rapist who bases his persona on Michael's famous ancestor, best known as Zorro. It's especially offensive to him that someone would pervert Zorro like this. He needs to protect the rapist's latest target; so he finds a way into the exclusive gathering. The problem is that she has no interest in being protected, so Michael has his hands full.

Julie Leto's latest is the second in a series, but it stands alone very well. She nicely captures the atmosphere of New Orleans in this sultry adventure.

Five years ago, although Abby Albertini was engaged, she slipped and had an affair. The affair was with Danny Burnett, who betrayed and broke Abby's heart by stealing a scandalous painting of her grandmother. Now Abby is widowed, and she hunts down Danny to offer him a job. The painting has resurfaced, and Abby wants him to steal the painting back.

Her anger still burns, but as much as she would like to deny it, her desire for Danny is still there, too. So, as he plots his caper while reluctantly accepting help from Abby, their simmering attraction explodes. But he believes she's too good for him and intends to leave Chicago as soon as he has the painting. Abby can't see a happy ending for them either, but she may see the possibilities if she embraces the rebellious spirit her grandmother embodied and she still nurtures deep inside.

This is the third book in Julie Leto's "Legendary Lovers" series.  While it can stand alone, readers will get the most out of it if they have read the prior tales. Characterization is strong, the plot is swift and exciting, and the sex sizzles.

Alex Aguilar has just learned that the father he never knew is dead and has left him a fortune‑‑and a brother, Michael, an FBI agent. Now Alex has come all the way from his home in Madrid to San Francisco to handle the auction of his father's priceless art collection. But it's his assistant, Lucienne Bonet, which is the best part of his new life. He can't wait to fire her so that he can finally get her into his bed.

Lucienne is not who she seems. She's actually Lucy Burnett, a fence who works with Alex's brother Danny, a brother Alex knows nothing about. She intends to steal an antique ring that could save Danny's life. Unfortunately, she can't find it, and she's distracted by her desire for Alex. Then the auction house is robbed, and the targeted nature of the robbery makes Lucy fear that someone dangerous knows her secrets.

Julie Leto's latest has its convoluted moments, and many characters fill its pages. But the characters are captivating; especially Spanish hunk Alex, and readers will devour this tale.

More Blazing Bedtime Stories Anthology
Julie Leto and Leslie Kelly

****+

This month Blaze offers another anthology of erotically charged fairy tales.
Julie Leto gifts us with a fun fairy tale in "Into the Woods." Tatiana Starlingham has been a fairy godmother for centuries. After suffering such a lengthy servitude, she wants to be free at last. To earn that freedom, she must enter the human world and grant the wish of the first woman she meets-- all while being merely human herself. Her target's wish is to get her break on Broadway. She has the talent, but she also has an overprotective-- and hot-- older brother, Jack St. Cloud. Tatiana will have her work cut out for her, because while Jack is more than willing to get in bed with her, he has no intention of letting his sister be destroyed by stardom.
Leslie Kelly follows this tale with "Once Upon a Mattress," a fun tale of her own. Lucas Wolf has been hired to find the lost princess of Riverdale. He finds Penny Mayfair quickly, but convincing her to come with him without telling her where they're going and why is another story. Since her father died three years ago, Penny has been trying to find her family and a place where she belongs. This gorgeous man with bizarrely quick-growing hair may be hot, but she will go nowhere without feeling safe. He finally tells her why he's come for her, and she won't believe the story he tells.
This slightly connected pair of tales are great fun. Readers will adore this melding of fairy tale, modern life and hot sex!

Something Wicked

Six months ago, Rick Fernandez was considering exploring the attraction he felt for Josie Vargas, even though their differing religious backgrounds (he's Catholic, she's Wiccan) might be cause for friction. Then came the horrible night when a demon tried to take over his body. Ever since then, he has been in pursuit of the demon, leaving his job and going from city to city, killing other evil creatures along the way. There's no place for romance when his very soul may be in jeopardy-- but now Josie has found him.

Josie may not have any magical powers, but she has magical friends, one of whom has given her an amulet of protection. When she finally finds Rick, she's not about to let him push her away when she knows she can help him in his quest. The next morning his hotel room is bombed, so he must stay in her borrowed apartment. And the more they learn about the ancient demon Ruhin, the more danger they appear to be in.

Julie Leto's latest features characters introduced in last year's Stripped, but this tale can stand alone. Her research into the Wiccan religion strengthens the tale by grounding the fantasy in reality, and the appealing characters, smoldering sensuality and supernatural suspense combine to make for a topnotch read.
