Interview with Sean Michael

Affaire de Coeur's September Calendar Guy!

Sean Michael spends his days surfing, smutting, organizing his immense gourd collection, and fantasizing about one day retiring on a small secluded island peopled entirely by horseshoe crabs. A longtime writer of complicated haiku, currently Sean is attempting to learn the advanced arts of plate spinning and soap carving sex toys. Barring any of that? He’ll stick with writing his stories, thanks, and rubbing pretty bodies together to see if they spark.

When did you start writing and why?

I started writing when I was about seven. I did it because I loved reading and I wanted to tell stories, too. That’s why I still write – to tell the stories in my head.

What have you learned about writing since you started?

That it’s a job. It’s the best job in the world, but it’s still a job.

Tell us about your new book or series.

A New Way to Dance is my first self-pubbed novel in quite a while. It’s about a man who is remaking himself after his lover leaves him and an accident robs him of his career. There’s a tiny bit of angst and a lot of loving.

What is your idea of a perfect day?

Sitting on the shore of the Atlantic, watching the waves do their thing.

Do you have any hobbies?

I love to read. I have always loved to read. I also love wandering around my city, seeing all the things it has to offer.

What is the worst thing about being an author?

Probably editing. It’s totally necessary, but I don’t like doing it.

What is your favorite thing about being an author?

All the wonderful readers. The fact that there are people who want to read what I write still amazes me.

How many books do you currently have out on the market and what genres do they fall into?

I have a lot of books out. They’re all romance, but within that I have a number of genres I enjoy writing in. There are sweet contemporaries, many of which feature gay dads. I have lots of contemporary BDSM. I also enjoy writing paranormals with werewolves, vampires, demons, and dragon shifters!

What can we expect from you next?

Look for the third Underground book in late September. Protection Detail is the story of Dustin and King, two Doms who know each other through the underground club.

Pass on some words of wisdom, please, to aspiring authors.

I always say that my best advice is to write, write, and write some more. You have to commit to writing every day, even if it’s just for fifteen minutes, even if what you come up with is drivel you later delete. The important thing is to be in the habit of writing.
