We would like to welcome C. A. Szarek, a USA Today Bestselling, award-winning author of romantic suspense, epic, and historical fantasy romance. C.A. loves to dabble in different genres. If it’s a good story, she’ll write it, no matter where it seems to fit!
She’s a hopeless romantic and always will be. Risking it all for Happily Ever After is what she lives by!
When did you start writing and why?
Since I was about 8. I started with poetry and then wrote my first novel at 14. I didn’t finish that one (and it will NEVER see the light of day) but I did write and finish on at 17 and hope to clean it up and publish it someday (in the far far future, it’s a mess). Not sure “why,” really. It’s a part of me. Like breathing. I can’t imagine NOT writing.
What have you learned about writing since you started?
SO MUCH! I don’t know that I can give a concise answer, LOL. I can say I thought I knew “how” to write but I didn’t. The more you write, the better you get, and I was lucky to have GREAT author friends to critique and help me along the way.
Tell us about your new book or series.
I’ve been stuck in the Scottish Highlands for a while, but that’s no problem, it’s an awesome place to be! Who doesn’t love a man in a kilt? HIGHLANDER’S PORTRAIT (A Highland Secrets Story) released in January 2017, and is a time-travel starring a romance author and a hot laird. In April or May, I have another coming out, a prequel (about Alex and Alana, for those of you who might’ve read my Highland Secrets Trilogy) and it’s called, THE PRINCESS AND THE LAIRD. I am super excited about it!
What is your idea of a perfect day?
I get to sleep as long as I want. And then I can pose as a couch potato. I don’t have a lot of down time.
Do you have any hobbies?
Yes, I like to Scrapbook and I watch entirely too much TV. I’m also an avid reader.
What is the worst thing about being an author?
Not writing as fast enough as I would like, so it takes me longer to finish a book than I’d like.
What is your favorite thing about being an author?
Telling stories! I have cool people in my head that I love sharing with the world!
How many books do you currently have out on the market and what genres do they fall into?
14 currently, and I write romantic suspense (5), epic fantasy romance (4) and historical fantasy romance (Scottish Highlander time travels) and there are 5 of them. In all of the above, there will be more in each series.
What can we expect from you next?
THE PRINCESS AND THE LAIRD will be my next release, and then there will be another time travel trilogy called Highland Treasures, and I also have to write the next Crossing Forces (romantic suspense series) for my publisher. It will be the 6th book in the series. (There are 8 total)
Pass on some words of wisdom, please, to aspiring authors.
Never give up. Ever. If you want this, you’ll have to work for it. Rejection happens, you have to persevere.
