Interview with C. A. Szarek
Affaire de Coeur's
April Calendar Girl
Today we welcome multi-genre published author C. A. Szarek. Ms. Szarek openly admits that she is a hopeless romantic and always will be. Risking it all for Happily Ever After is what she lives by! C.A. is originally from Ohio, but got to Texas as soon as she could. She's happily married and has a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. She works with kids when she's not writing.
What were your 1-2 biggest learning experience(s) or surprise(s) throughout the publishing process?
That walking away from a publisher when something isn’t right for me or my book(s) isn’t the end of the world.
What genres do you write and do you go by different Nom de Plumes?
I do write different genres, even more than I’m currently published in. Right now I have books out that are romantic suspense, epic fantasy romance, and historical fantasy (Scottish Highlander Time Travels). I also right paranormal and YA. I will get those books out…eventually. There’s never enough time. LOL. I write under C.A. Szarek for all them.
Let's talk about the day to day creative process. Take us through a typical writing day for you.
I work 60 hours a week (two jobs) in addition to writing so now my writing time is “stolen.” I write as much as I can. I try to write every day, but that doesn’t mean my world allows that 100% of the time. I write in the evenings when I get home from work. That ends up being about 6p-8p. On a good night I can get in a few thousand words. On the weekends I work overnight, and if everything is good where I work I can have a GREAT writing weekend.
What do you like to read?
EVERYTHING! LOL. The hotter the better, but I don’t like straight erotica, I have to have love in there. I LOVE LOVE LOVE historicals especially that take place in Scotland.
Where are you from?
I’m from Ohio, been in Texas 13 years. LOVE Texas.
Married/In a relationship? Children? Pets?
Married to my soulmate. We just passed our 10th in Nov. We have four-footed children. Two dogs and a cat. Love my fur babies!
Do you have a critique partner?
Yes! I actually have about 6-7 go-to people. I really like to get different sets of eyes on my work, and I love my CPs. They’ve made my writing what it is.
Attending any conventions/conferences this year?
Probably too many, Lol! I am going to RT (Romantic Times) in Dallas in May. Author-Reader Con in New Orleans in July, and RomCon in September in Denver. I am also doing local events. I list them all on my website, so everyone can know where I’m at! Come see me! I LOVE meeting readers!
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
Never Ever Ever give up.
Tell us your latest news? Current projects?
My latest news is the release of Rogue’s Call (The King’s Riders Book Three) I’m super excited about it! I am currently working on Crossing Forces Book 5, and it’s called Superior Collision.
Interesting questions you have been asked by your fans …
Inspiration for sex scenes (insert eye-roll)
Do you listen to music while you write or do you need complete silence?
Yes! I have to have music or it’s too quiet and I can’t think. I can’t have the TV on, because it’s too much temptation to watch it, so music it is. I listen to rock and alternative. :-)
